Let the research begin!

Really funny, me and a HK celebrity and I don't know him, but whatever, yolo!
Found this paradise in Tin Shui Wai and it's free. So I think I ll run here each friday night :D

The progression of the Research:
At last, we can start with our research. Today Dane and I went to the faculty on a sunday. After a while Dane left and I was all alone by myself. Well, I finished 6 blocks and now we have to wait for tomorrow for more K files. I'm responsible for the single length technique and I used the mTwo's first , because should something go wrong, we still have some spare mTwo files.
It's 19.15 now and I m here writing this post. Meanwhile, the whole department is dark and it's really like a horror movie! But hey, I got food!!! Thats all I care :P JK guess Im going for dinner after I finish writing this post.
The materials :D

Dane torturing a J shaped plastic block

Doing some serious stuff and no it's not related to food...

Actually I didn't gain any weights after being here for two month of eating all day long. I actually lost 2 kg. Maybe it's because I use my masticatory muscles so extensively that I lost weight :P
Well that's all, speaking of food I'm hungry now and  going to leave. Well, next time more food posts will be posted, cuz there is always more food :P

dinsdag 5 november 2013

This time no food post :D

So I think some people will wonder after reading our blog when will they be doing some research. All they post are related to food and ocean park, disney land, sighseeing etc. No research posts at all.
Well, some of you already know that something went wrong with the materials order. When we arrived at HK, we were missing mTwo files (as control group), plastic J shaped blocks (we did bring S shaped blocks, however after some thinking we concluded that those are not clinically relevant) and so we couldn't begin our research. So after some time discussing and finding out what precisely we needed, we placed orders for the plastic blocks and the mTwo files. However, it would take 8-12 weeks before it arrives. So we had a problem.

Luckily, the HKU purchased all the plastic blocks (56 pieces in total) that were available. We need a total of 120 pieces. Furthermore, luckily dr. Shemesh helped us with borrowing the mTwo files from ACTA to HKU via FedEx which will be faster than the supplier. So when those files from the supplier arrives, we are planning to send it back to ACTA.

Well, I think next week we will finally be able to start the first part of our research.

UPDATE 7-11-13
So this morning the mTwo files (control group) just arrived. In total there are 150 files ^^

Time travelling

Eat, eat, eat

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and ASX models :D

When we enter the dental materials lab, it's like we are timetraveling back to the 80's. Here we encounter some expired resin composites which are older than me.

The beamdestroyer machine

The resin composite beams in various colors
We were curious how those expired resin composites will perform at the compressive test.
Tha destroya machine

Ok so the compressive strength of the expired resin composites are way too low (red by CK and orange by Dane). The green one is normal not expired composite.

Products from anonymous bored dental students

It was almost lunch time and we were hungry. Hmmm gypsum porridge should be ok...
We tested the tensile strenght of paper
Even dr. Matinlinna tried but we all failed. With this demonstration, dr. Matinlinna wanted to tell us what impact an imperfection in dental material can cause.

The three gypsum produced from one mix. First Dane made his perfect gypsum, Kylie made an almost perfect one and I made a Cheesy one. By the time I made mine, I think the gypsum was already starting to set. Because Dane's gypsum had the highest strength and mine was the lowest.
